On April 17, 2026, Pūpūkahi Tech hosted a vibecoding class in Honolulu for small business owners and students — pairing kamaʻāina with Lovable, an AI app builder, to turn ideas into shipped software in a single evening. For nearly everyone in the room, it was the first time they had ever built an app.
What is vibecoding?
Vibecoding is a new way of building software: describe what you want in plain English, and an AI partner writes the code, designs the interface, and ships it live. No syntax to memorize, no setup to wrestle with — just ideas, conversation, and iteration.
For our community, that unlock is enormous. A Hawaiʻi small business owner shouldn't need a computer-science degree to launch an online booking page, a menu site, or a customer-feedback tool.
Real apps, built in the room
Working alongside instructors, attendees used Lovable to build the tools they actually needed. A small-business owner sketched a simple landing page for her side hustle. A student prototyped a class-project tracker. Another built a mock booking site for a family lūʻau service — complete with a working contact form — in under an hour.
By the end of the night, every participant had a live URL to share with their ʻohana.
